Ben Towner
Lead Software Engineer — Problem Solver, Tinkerer, Traveller
I build things that work. Software, hardware, and everything in between.
About Me
I’m a Lead Software Engineer specializing in Terminal Operating Systems. I bridge the gap between product teams and engineering, turning “we can’t do that” into “how can we make that happen?”
What I Do
- Lead Engineering - Strategic visionary for a TOS engineering team, driving innovation and challenging legacy mindsets
- Problem Solving - I look at challenges from multiple angles and find solutions that stick
- Building - Whether it’s software, RC crawlers, CAD designs on OnShape, or building a fence on a farm, I love creating things
Where I’ve Been
Currently based in Southern Spain with my wife, two kids, and our dog. Before that we lived in the United States, we don’t believe in a “forever home” but rather making home wherever we are.
Accomplishments
- Built an Observability team and platform using the Elastic Stack, paving the way for a global core competancy center and global database mangement team.
- Successful managed 5 Software Migrations around the world - Each project had between $600k and $3M budget for training, custom development, staff and travel.
- United States, Argentina, The Netherlands,
- Data Migration - I was in charge of the data migration for 15 separate container terminals from Oracle to SQL Server
Outside of Work
- 3D printing - from shoe repairs to custom RC car parts
- Home automation - ESP32, Arduino, Home Assistant
- RC off-road crawling - 1:10 scale
- Reading - always learning
- Padel - A fun racquet sport to play with friends
- Mountain Biking - A exercise in mental stamina, you have to suffer through the climb to enjoy the downhill ride!
